As well as overwhelming majority of working breeds, the rottweiler was brought to us by the ingenious German selectors. This breed is the classics of the German cynology. The rottweiler had been known since ancient times, but development he has passed from the polytypic and multi—coloured Mastiffs and Molossians dogs up to the best nowadays samples had been got in Germany which is by right considered the historical motherland of breed and it's cradle.

Once found out the rottweiler's nature, everyone would estimate his fidelity, firmness, mighty fighting spirit and fearlessness first of all. These features of the rottweiler's nature are the firm base incorporated on the initial stages of the breed creation hardly being broken even by inexpert education.
One more basic character trait of the rottweiler is good nature. If it is possible say so, rottweiler is always in good mood. The temperament of the rottweiler can be considered average of intensity; so the rottweiler behaves in family and houses, in the street and in a society easy and unperturbably: he does not either climb in fight or bark in vain. The rottweiler is not persuasive, there is no anxiety or gustiness in his character – humility, guile or falseness aren't immanent to him. He deals with the troubles firmly, with no fear.
Modern cynology has accepted the rottweiler matured breed which nature was very precisely described by the countess Agn fon Hagen: «Well-knit fellow is devoted, good-natured and amiable with children. He precisely distinguishes concepts "duty" and "off post". The self-denying defender is a real lamb at home. His clever eyes can light up causing fear shine, being absolutely naive with the friend. The rottweiler is not elegant, but he has the nobleness of force, cheerful nature, self-respect and deep soul».
In the house and a garden, on the work and in the workshops the rottweiler proves as very affectionate, trustful and pliable dog. These qualities is a result of the long domestication what simplifies the rottweiler adaptation to the life at home and obedience to the master will. However, we have to keep in mind that it is a strong, hardy and original dog and ho one can physically command the rottweiler. Under the inept handling the rottweiler becomes disobedient, the firm hand is necessary for him, the dog promply feels an indulgence, and recovery of the correct relations would be painful for both the human and the dog.
Training and adapting abilities of rottweiler are very high and always praised by professional cynologists. As aresult of long breeding work directed to it's practical use the rottweiler perfectly masters and stores results of education and training, and has extraordinary eagerness. But the trainer should know and keep in mind the breed features: the rottweiler usually reacts slowly at first, but strongly keeps the produced skills.
Czech cynologist A. Tomanek mentions that to develop the rottweiler initial skills requires more time, than other breeds' one, but the trained dog lets to lower the training hours amount for 1/3 without reduction of results. Training the dog keep in mind that at the rottweiler has strong food reaction and use of this feature would allow to develop and fix various tricks very quickly. It is very reliable method of the rottweiler training.
According to M. Andreev, the rottweiler is capable to various service work. He perfectly follows and tackles the human steps without being forced down on the animal scents because his hunting instincts are very poor. Working on the steps rottweiler shows a great persistence on search and a strong differentiation due to the steadiness of character which is the best way combined with the requirements to the search dogs, as soon as the motto of a good police dog is «steadiness plus endurance».
