puppies' development

It's well–known nowadays that if the puppy had been frightened at this period, he or she will remember that all his or her life. This is the time of the most vulnerability of the nervous system. Better avoid the stresses. For example, try to make the visits to the veterinary more pleasant? Taking with you toys and dainties. Ask the veterinary to help you taking more care of the puppy. Surgeries, for example, of the hernia, better delay to the end of this period.

First time better choose quiet streets for walks. You will need to accustom the dog to the different kinds of the city transport and rides inside. Walking puppy will necessary meet other dogs. It's better to meet first age mates or calm and kind adult dogs. Try to avoid meeting strong, brash dogs who may depress the puppy and make him or her take the passive guard position. Try to keep the puppy off the strangers to do not let him or her to come to them through idle curiosity, but they shall not also pay attention to him, play with puppy, pet and vex him or her.

The period from 3—4 to 6—7 months is characterized by shaping of the typological features of the nervous system. In this period the puppy gets surer and starts to check the master finding out who's the leader, trying to growl and bit the master, tenses the leash while walking or training. This behavior shall be promptly nipped. Puppy shall not become the dictator. Build the relationships with the puppy avoiding both the «blow–outs» and hidden drive to leadership. Master shall insist on own, though it's not easy to make the little know–it–all see the futility of his or her efforts. Although most dogs don't tend to be the leader of the «horde», the rottweiler males usually do, so their owners shall keep in mind the importance of this period. Remember, that 3—4–month puppy already has his or her emotions set, so he or she will stay the same all his or her life. Training can either strengthen desirable features of the young rottweiler, or depress the negative ones.

In the 4—8 months there's the so called independence period. Young rottweiler pretends to be deaf to commands like «Come here!» and quickly goes to the opposite direction. The length of this period may differ, so look to avoid the fixation of this custom «to get own way». Keep puppy leashed not letting him or her to entertain himself as he or she likes. You may let him or her only after the exact and willing following the command «Come here!» to be sure that he or she will come back at your whistle. Make the dog be tolerant to other dogs, pets, transport and strangers.

Rottweilers belong to group of late breeds. Final physical and psychical shaping is completed in 3—4 year age. The 1 to 4 year period is called by C. Pfuffenberger the «awkward age». Pubescent dog may wish to try the current leader again. Treat the dog firmly but kindly and go on training so that the discipline would be kept.

The male may show the extra aggression even against the people he or she knows from the early age. The hierarchical relations are to be rebuilt so even the males, who had been friends, are struggling or try to. Dog launches the challenge against the fitness of things. So the psycho-physiological changes of the awkward age shall be perceived as necessary physiological process and the master will need to readjust the relationships with the dog. There are usually problems with rottweilers, especially with males, at this period, because the masters often aren't ready for troubles. Dog is obstinate, the owner doesn't know what to do, frightens, and dog gets the leadership. Seeing the signs of these tends of dog, firmly enforce obedience and continue the training to keep the dog in order.
