initial training

Keeping and training of the puppy are closely connected. Start the training directly after the puppy has appeared in the house. All family members shall be friendly and easy to the puppy, but there shall be the only one master who will be handling the puppy at home and later will be training him or her. Always be patient, insistent and careful while working with puppy. Any personal problems or your trouble days mustn't rub off on the puppy, don't make it the reason of impatient, unfair or rough behavior towards the young animal. At the same time don't leave any indiscipline or ill behavior without the educational impact.

Important! Don't forget that it's necessary to correlate your actions with the puppy's age and punish him or her at the same time when the puppy does or just has done the wrong action. Then the puppy will be able to understand what is demanded of him or her and why do you act so. Otherwise, if your action, including the punishment, is late, the puppy won't understand what do you demand and why do you punish him or her.

The feeding schedule is all–important for the little puppy. Every feeding is a good chance for the owner to bring the dressing tricks by sly degrees, without stress. For example, training to name: with a bowl with meal, say his name, and when the puppy pays attention to you, feed him or her, softly repeating his name. Baby will answer to his name in a day or two and will come to the bowl to your call.

When puppy will learn the name, replace it by the command «Come here!». This skill is very important because it allows handling the dog in different circumstances. Don't require the perfect performance from the very first times — firstly demand only conditional, symbolic performing of the command, in this case — simply the coming. Wherever he or she hides while walking, whatever he or she does, the puppy shall immediately come to master when he or she commands «Come here!». It's difficult to accomplish. The master needs to keep the constant contact with the dog under any circumstances anytime. Keep special attention to the drill from the very early age. Puppy's mind well perceives simple constantly and insistedly repeated commands. Just remember to be very patient and insistent. Otherwise the puppy and later the grown adult dog will give you a lot of trouble.

When the puppy comes to the bowl or to the meal place at your whistle, every time getting the meal award and caress, start training this command outdoor. While walking, periodically say the puppy's name and, when he or she reacts, command him or her. If he or she runs to you, praise him or her saying «Good!» or by dainty. If the puppy reacts poor or comes slowly, say the name and squat. Such actions are to call the interest so the puppy will run to you. Then immediately praise him or her by words or dainty. Further, establishing the conditioned reflex, praise him or her more and more seldom. Necessarily make puppy run to you immediately and lively as you command «Come here!», wherever far he or she was.

As soon as puppy starts to perform the command «Kennel!», you may improve it's performance. Sit the puppy and softly command him or her «Seat», holding him or her at the same place, quietly repeating «Kennel!».

Throw a thing to fetch (i.e. ball, toy, etc.) in front of the puppy. Hold him for a while and then say the command «Fetch!» what shall be previously familiar to puppy. Command «Kennel!» and at the same time pull the hand in front of dog's mug. As soon as he or she learns to stay at the place draw back your hand for several centimeters till he or she gets used to seat obeying the combination of voice and gesture.

Assume measures to do not let the puppy away if he or she doesn't want to perform the command. When he or she tries to leave, firmly stop him, sit him back and start again. When the lesson is digested? Start to train the puppy to sit while you leave for longer distances. If he or she breaks down and moves from the place, repeat the exercise, but shorten the distance.

After this trick is fully digested, you may start to train the «Fetch!» command.
You may accustom the dog to fetch in a very early age, throwing soft toy or ball at short distance in the room. Puppy will certainly run for the toy and catch it. Command «Come here!» and as usually tap on your knees to make the puppy bring it to you. When he or she comes, softly but decisively pat him or her praising as delightfully as you can. Then command «Give me!» and softly take out the thing from the puppy's teeth, but never force or jerk. Then keep the thing to let the puppy see, but not catch.

Later you can add the «Sit!» command just before the puppy is to give you a thing. It will be the start of performing the chain of commands as associated sequence of actions. It's not difficult to train the puppy to lie at command «Down!» because it may be continued from the command «Sit!». This command is appropriate for grown puppy of 4—5-month age.

Command one after another «Sit!» and «Kennel!» as described above. Repeat «Kennel!» and then come back to puppy, press by one hand on his or her withers, and pull the carpus by another hand to make him or her lie. At the same time quietly say: «Lie! Lie!» If puppy tries to stand up, repeat the command and add «Kennel!» till he or she see clearly what is demanded to do. When new command is mastered, practice the sequence «Sit!» – «Kennel!» – «Lie!» — «Kennel!» to achieve the automatism.
